Project to improve energy efficiency in our Puertollano plants
The main objective of this project is to reduce energy consumption at our ammonia production plant in Puertollano.
- The purpose of this project is to replace the interior components of the cooling tower with more energy-efficient components to reduce energy consumption at our ammonia production plant.
The proposed actions consist of replacing all the interior components of the cooling tower with new, energy-efficient components of the latest, optimised design. These are the filler, droplet separators, water distributors and diffusers.
The new components will allow a thermal jump of 10ºC with water 1ºC colder than the original design. This will allow an improvement in the performance of the ammonia condenser, increasing the flow of condensed ammonia and thus reducing pressure in the synthesis loop. This reduction in pressure means less compression energy and, therefore, a surplus of high-pressure steam is produced, which is diverted to the medium-pressure steam network, thus reducing the consumption of natural gas in the auxiliary boiler for steam production.
