With this project, we want to replace the current catalytic converters with higher quality ones in order to reduce energy consumption at our plant in Puertollano.
The main objective of this project is to reduce energy consumption at our ammonia production plant in Puertollano. For this purpose, the existing catalytic converters will be replaced by others with more favourable operational requirements, such as high activity, low pressure drop, excellent heat transfer characteristics, protection against carbon formation and long service life.
The first two requirements result in higher conversion of natural gas to H2 on the one hand, and a lower pressure drop on the other. Both concepts result in a lower power requirement for synthesis gas compressors as the synthesis recycle is reduced. These are driven by turbines, which therefore reduce their steam consumption. Steam is generated in a boiler by burning natural gas.
