Madrid, April 1, 2015 – The collaboration between PepsiCo and Fertiberia has been recognized with the InovaCción Prize by Promarca in the Best Manufacturer-Primary Sector Collaboration category. This award highlights their innovative program utilizing low-carbon fertilizers, Impact Zero, produced from green hydrogen, with the goal of reducing emissions in potato cultivation.
Promarca, the association representing leading manufacturers of brands in Food, Beverages, Personal Care, and Household Products in Spain, held the seventh edition of the InovaCción Awards last week as part of its annual event “The Value of Brands,” which also featured the fifth edition of “Empowering Brands for Spain’s Depopulated Areas.”
This year’s InovaCción Awards recognized the best practices in the mass consumption sector, with companies such as Danone, Unilever, P&G, and Campofrío Frescos also receiving awards. More than 100 entries were submitted for this year’s competition.
The award presented to PepsiCo and Fertiberia acknowledges their success in reducing the carbon footprint of potato cultivation. In the first phase of the project, they achieved a 15% reduction in CO2 emissions across 200 hectares of PepsiCo’s potato fields in Spain. Thanks to the use of sustainable fertilizers, 8,900 tons of high-quality potatoes have been produced in fields located in Álava, La Rioja, and Burgos, resulting in a reduction of approximately 85,000 kg of CO2
eq emissions.
The InovaCción Awards are supported by institutional participation from the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Tourism, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Trade, and Business, as well as companies and associations such as FIAB, ESADE, ANGED, KANTAR, OEPM, ANDEMA, STANPA and Cooperativas Agroalimentarias.
This recognition underscores PepsiCo and Fertiberia’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in the agricultural sector, as they work together to mitigate the environmental impact of farming and contribute to the development of a more responsible and eco-friendly agriculture.
