R&D&I: AGROTECH & BIOTECH
Agrotechnology and biotechnology to obtain cutting-edge, efficient solutions
We apply R&D&I to increase our competitiveness, modernising processes and achieving better products that adapt to market demand.
AGROTECH AND BIOTECH AT FERTIBERIA
Innovation, the backbone of our business strategy, at the service of agricultural efficiency
The ability to innovate only makes sense for Fertiberia if it is fully aligned with the needs of the market. In the areas of biotechnology (biotech) and agrotechnology (agrotech) applied to agriculture, the R&D (Research and Development) of our group has the following objectives:
- Always improve marketed products.
- Discover and thoroughly study new raw materials and new formulations.
- Unequivocally verify the agronomic benefits of new products.

We carry out numerous research projects, trials and agronomic studies, preferably in collaboration with universities and specialised and independent research centres in the Iberian Peninsula and the rest of Europe, sharing ideas and delving into disruptive concepts, with a focus on the sensitivity of technicians and the needs of the crop.
This allows us to continuously create new nutritional solutions adapted to the needs of the agricultural sector, contributing to food production in an environmentally friendly way.
Agrotechnology and biotechnology are one of the main areas where we carry out R&D&I, from our state-of-the-art laboratories at CTA Fertiberia and TRICHODEX.
TYPES, ADVANTAGES AND APPLICATIONS OF BIOTECHNOLOGY
Innovation and technology to build a sustainable and healthy future
What is biotechnology?
Biotechnology is the combination of biology and the technology that uses living organisms, biological systems or derivatives to develop or create products and processes with applications in medicine, agriculture, industry and the environment.
Applications of biotechnology in our sector
In agriculture and plant nutrition, biotechnology has a myriad of capabilities, starting with the development of genetically modified crops that contribute to increased resistance to pests and diseases and adverse environmental conditions, as well as improved nutritional quality and crop yields.
In addition, microorganisms and enzymes can be used for the production of chemicals, biofuels, biodegradable plastics and other industrial products to improve soil fertility and production in a more sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.
How do we use biotechnology in Grupo Fertiberia?
At Grupo Fertiberia, we champion innovation as the basis of our competitiveness on the market. We have our own Agri-environmental Technology Centre (CTA), where we carry out pioneering research into innovation in a first-class technological and academic environment. Our commitment to R&D&I allows us to develop innovative products worldwide, such as the Impact Zero or NSAFE® ranges, which have made us leaders in the sector.
Advantages of NSAFE® technology for global agriculture
NSAFE® is a worldwide pioneering technology that has already been implemented in several countries after more than 6 years of research. It is the first microbiological development on the market with a nitrification inhibiting effect, which translates into the protection of nitrogen and its activity, remaining available in the soil for longer so that plants can absorb it more slowly. This is a breakthrough for agriculture and sustainability as it exponentially increases the profitability of crops while ensuring environmental sustainability.
Crop sustainability: the greatest benefit of NSAFE®
Environmental and economic sustainability are its greatest benefits. NSAFE® does something unique that minimises nitrogen losses in soil and air: it absorbs nitric nitrogen directly into its organic structure in the form of protein and releases it as organic nitrogen after the end of its life cycle. This is also key to increasing crop yields and profitability for our farmers.
NSAFE®, now available on the market
NSAFE® is already being applied in our Nergetic DZ+ range of fertilisers in Fertiberia TECH and will be progressively incorporated into the rest of the products in the Nergetic line. This commitment to biotechnological innovation, together with our commitment to green hydrogen and digitisation makes Grupo Fertiberia a leader in the transformation of agriculture in the EU.
