Südzucker Sugar Division and Fertiberia Partner to Decarbonize European Sugar Beet Production

Field trials with Fertiberia’s Impact Zero® fertilizers deliver up to 30% lower greenhouse gases emissions.

  • The companies are now working on expanded trials across Europe to refine fertilization strategies.

Madrid, 22 September 2025. Südzucker Sugar Division has partnered with Fertiberia to reduce the carbon footprint of sugar beet cultivation using Fertiberia’s Impact Zero® solutions. These consist of innovative, high-techlow-greenhouse gases crop nutrition solutions produced with green hydrogen.

The collaboration supports Südzucker’s commitment to more sustainable, low-greenhouse gas agriculture by helping local beet growers advance on their decarbonization journey. To this end, the company is assessing both the agronomic and environmental benefits of Fertiberia’s Impact Zero® fertilizers in multiple European countries.

The trials conducted at the Étrépagny experimental farm of Saint Louis Sucre in France have shown promising results. Applying Fertiberia’s Impact Zero NERGETIC DS+ crop nutrition solution, compared to conventional fertilizers, resulted in a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions of 30%. This result positions Fertiberia’s Impact Zero® as an effective tool for decarbonizing sugar beet production.

Building on these results, Südzucker Sugar Division is currently working on expanding trials in different European regions, with the aim of further optimizing the fertilization strategy and establishing a roadmap that will allow Südzucker to continue with the decarbonization of its sugarbeet production .
