Fertiberia announces the awards for the best doctoral theses on agricultural subjects
- Every year, the competition honours the best “cum laude” theses from universities in Spain and Portugal on fertilisation, soils and agricultural activity.
- With a total amount of 30,000 Euros, this is one of the best financially endowed agronomic research awards in Europe.

Madrid, 11/03/2024 – Fertiberia announces the 26th edition of the “Fertiberia Award for the Best Doctoral Thesis on Agricultural Subjects”, an initiative that supports talent and research, recognising the best academic work defended at universities in Spain and Portugal in the field of fertilisation and agronomic activity.
Organised in collaboration with the Official Association of Agricultural Engineers of Central Spain and Canary Islands (Colegio Oficial de Ingenieros Agrónomos de Centro y Canarias (COIACC)) and the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), this is one of the most prestigious agronomic research awards in Europe.
- Evaluated by a jury of recognised professional and academic profile, the theses that opt for the award must have obtained the maximum qualification “cum laude” in Spain, or its equivalent distinction in Portugal, as well as having been defended during the last academic year 2022/23.
- Additionally, they must deal with fertilisation, soils and soil amendment, although papers related to agricultural activity in general will also be considered.
The deadline for entries will remain open until 24 May 2024. The rules of the award can be downloaded from the Fertiberia Group website.
The Fertiberia Award for the Best Doctoral Thesis is one of the best financially endowed European awards for agronomic research, with a first prize of 14,000 Euros and a runner-up prize of 5,000 Euros. Thesis supervisors will also be awarded prizes of 8,000 and 3,000 Euros, respectively. In total, the competition will award prizes worth 30,000 Euros.
Those interested should send a copy of their doctoral thesis in digital format together with the works published about it, their curriculum vitae, certification from the centre that accredits their qualification and the document referring to data protection to:
- ‘Grupo Fertiberia. Calle Agustín de Foxá, 27 (Planta 8), 28036 Madrid’, indicating on the envelope Ref.: “FERTIBERIA Award”.
More than a quarter of a century recognising the best research talent
Since the award was created in 1996, more than 400 “cum laude” doctoral theses from 50 universities and research centres in Spain and Portugal have been considered. In addition, prizes worth close to one million Euros have been awarded, thus boosting the research capacity and talent in agronomics for professionals in the sector.
