The Spanish company, Europe's leading tomato processor, will use Impact Zero, the world’s first crop nutrition solution produced with green hydrogen
- The initial goal is to apply this sustainable solution to 250 hectares in 2025 and progressively expand its use.
February 18, 2025. Conesa Group, the European leader in tomato processing, has signed an agreement with Fertiberia, through its Fertiberia TECH team, to drastically reduce emissions in its crops by using a range of low-carbon fertilizers, which will be distributed through Mercoguadiana. The agri-food company will gradually implement Impact Zero crop nutrition solutions in its farms across the Iberian Peninsula. These fertilizers, produced by replacing natural gas with green hydrogen, significantly reduce the carbon footprint while maintaining agronomic efficiency.
Conesa Group follows an ambitious policy in terms of environmental sustainability, emissions reduction, and waste recovery. In line with this commitment, it has already begun partially fertilizing one of its most productive farms with Impact Zero, aiming to reach more than 250 hectares in 2025 and exceed 300 hectares in 2026. The Extremadura-based company directly manages over 2,000 hectares of tomato crops in Spain and has long-term agreements with the country’s leading tomato producers, making it a key player in the decarbonization of all tomato-derived products.
For its part, Fertiberia has been a pioneer in producing fertilizers made from green hydrogen. In addition to using green hydrogen to drastically reduce the carbon footprint of its products, the company is also developing biofertilizers, biocontrol products, biostimulants, micronutrients, and microorganisms tailored to the demands of sustainable and high-precision agriculture, enhancing productivity while ensuring soil sustainability.
Field trials conducted by Fertiberia confirm that Impact Zero significantly reduces emissions in large-scale crops. “The alliance with an international leader like Conesa Group is a clear example that cooperation across the entire supply chain is essential to achieving an emission-free food chain,” says Alfredo Segura, Fertilizers Sales Director at Grupo Fertiberia. This agreement is groundbreaking in the industrial tomato sector and demonstrates that “Spanish agri-food companies are leading the global decarbonization of the industry.”
