Thanks to the application of Fertiberia TECH biotechnological solutions and the use of the Impact Zero low-carbon line, IberoPistacho will minimise its carbon emissions, promoting sustainability in the agricultural sector.

Madrid, 16 October 2024. Fertiberia, one of the European leaders in high-tech crop nutrition, has established a strategic partnership with IberoPistacho Group, a group from La Mancha (Spain) dedicated to the cultivation and development of pistachio nuts, to move towards greater sustainability in the Spanish agricultural sector, through the application of biotechnological solutions and the Impact Zero range of low-carbon fertilisers.

IberoPistacho Group is committed to minimising the environmental impact of its operations, both in its own plantations and in those of its partners and suppliers. To achieve this, it is applying biotechnological solutions from Fertiberia TECH’s Neoforce range to complement the nutrition and bioprotection of pistachio trees with biofertilisers based on microbial consortia and biocontrol solutions.

In addition, in the 2024-2025 campaign, IberoPistacho Group will implement Fertiberia’s Impact Zero range, which is produced from green hydrogen to replace natural gas, in its pistachio crops nationwide. This initiative, together with precision agriculture and the application of biotech solutions, will allow the company to reduce its carbon footprint.

The commercial director of Grupo Fertiberia, Alfredo Segura, has highlighted the commitment of both companies to care for the environment and reduce the carbon footprint in the industry: “We are deeply committed to sustainability and the transition to a more respectful agriculture. Our alliance with IberoPistacho Group is a clear example of how collaboration between companies and the combination of biotech and low-carbon solutions can increase agricultural productivity while ensuring a more efficient and sustainable resource management. Together, we are closer to the decarbonisation of the agricultural sector.

In turn, Juan Gallego, founder and General Manager of IberoPistacho Group, mentions that “At IberoPistacho Group, our mission has always been to offer high-quality products while promoting a sustainable agricultural model that protects the environment for future generations. This agreement with Fertiberia represents a significant step forward in our commitment to reduce the environmental impact of our operations and achieve a more efficient and environmentally friendly production. By implementing advanced biotechnological solutions and low carbon footprint fertilisers, we not only seek to improve the productivity of our crops, but also to contribute to a more sustainable Spanish agricultural sector. We are convinced that initiatives like these not only benefit our customers and farmers, but also contribute to the fight against climate change, aligning ourselves with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”

This alliance ratifies the commitment of Fertiberia and IberoPistacho Group to environmental sustainability and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), sharing the common goal of achieving efficient decarbonisation in agriculture.

Increasingly more companies are using low-emission fertilisers

In recent years, Fertiberia has strengthened its leadership in sustainability through important partnerships with companies from different sectors, promoting a more environmentally friendly agriculture at a global level. Companies such as Marks & Spencer, Vivescia, Grupo Gallo, Primaflor, Heineken and PepsiCo have incorporated in their agricultural processes fertilisers from Fertiberia’s Impact Zero range, specifically designed to reduce the carbon footprint of agricultural activity. These agreements cover essential crops such as cereals, wheat, vegetables, barley and potatoes, with the aim of minimising emissions throughout the food value chain.

Thanks to these alliances, Fertiberia and its partners have made progress in the decarbonisation of their production, improving the sustainability of such varying sectors as beer, pasta and fresh vegetables. This not only reinforces the shared commitment to CO2 reduction, but also encourages more responsible agricultural practices, laying the foundations for a more efficient global production aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
