Nutrient recovery from bio-based waste for fertilizer production
We are coordinating the NEWFERT project (Nutrient recovery from bio-based waste for fertilizer production), which is clearly framed within the concepts of circular economy and green chemistry (identified as a priority by the European Union), based on the maximum utilisation of existing resources, improving their efficiency, recovery and recycling.
Objective
The NEWFERT project aims to recover nutrients from waste to use them for the manufacture of fertilisers.
- The main objective of the proposal is to build an innovative concept of the Fertiliser Industry: strengthening European competitiveness and increasing the "bioeconomy" potential in Europe through the development of a new value chain based on waste nutrient recovery processes for the manufacture of fertilisers.
NEWFERT will therefore contribute to decrease dependency on raw materials, avoid resource depletion and reduce environmental impacts, increasing the sustainability of the fertiliser industry.
Project partners

The NEWFERT Project, a benchmark in terms of initiatives driving the circular economy, highlights the importance of biotechnology in the recovery of nutrients from bio-based waste for the production of fertilisers, aligning with the principles of circular economy and green chemistry. This approach not only strengthens European competitiveness, but also promotes sustainability and the development of the bioeconomy in Europe.
