The first microbiological development on the market with a nitrification-inhibiting effect.
- This innovative microbiological solution prevents nitrogen losses, protects soil biodiversity, and increases crop yields. It has been patented at the European level and has been successfully marketed in Spain and Portugal since 2023.
- Van de Reijt, the Dutch subsidiary of Grupo Fertiberia, will lead commercialization in Germany and the Netherlands, where nitrogen use efficiency and soil health are key agricultural policy priorities.
Madrid, March 17, 2026. Fertiberia, a European leader in high tech, low-carbon crop nutrition, has announced the launch of NSAFE® Fertiberia in the Netherlands and Germany. This pioneering technology, patented at the European level (EP 4 377 441 B1), sets a new standard in nitrogen use efficiency and soil protection.
Developed over more than six years of research, NSAFE® Fertiberia is the first bio-inhibitor on the market capable of significantly reducing nitrogen losses, protecting soil microbial biodiversity, and contributing to improved crop yields.
Initially, it will be incorporated into two fertilizers from the Fertiberia TECH NERGETIC COMPLETE range: Nergetic Complete DZ+ NSAFE® Fertiberia and Nergetic Complete DS+ NSAFE® Fertiberia.
Commercialization in both countries will be carried out through Van de Reijt Meststoffen B.V., the Dutch subsidiary of Grupo Fertiberia.
Advanced microbiological technology
NSAFE® Fertiberia protects nitrogen and prolongs its activity, preventing losses through leaching or volatilization. As a result, nitrogen remains available in the soil for longer, allowing plants to absorb it more gradually without altering the soil microbiome. This feature is particularly relevant in the Netherlands and Germany, where nitrogen use efficiency and soil health are key agricultural policy priorities.
NSAFE® Fertiberia is more efficient than conventional chemical inhibitors. Unlike synthetic inhibitors, which act on ammoniacal nitrogen (NH₄⁺), NSAFE® acts directly on nitrate nitrogen (NO₃⁻). It assimilates nitrate into its organic structure in the form of protein and releases it as organic nitrogen once its life cycle is complete.
Scientific validation and performance data
To achieve registration and market acceptance, fertilizers incorporating NSAFE® Fertiberia have undergone rigorous laboratory and field validation in collaboration with leading European research centers and universities, including the University of Lisbon, the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, the University of León, Wageningen University (Netherlands), Ghent University (Belgium), the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), and AGROSOLUTION (France).
- Results consistently show that NSAFE® Fertiberia improves nitrogen use efficiency and crop productivity while contributing to soil protection and reducing environmental impact:
- Reduced nitrogen leaching: 40 trials conducted in pots and leaching columns showed an average reduction of 20%.
- Lower N₂O emissions: 5 trials recorded reductions ranging from 20% to 60%.
- Improved agronomic efficiency and field productivity: more than 70 field trials showed:
- Nitrogen agronomic efficiency: an average increase of 70%.
- Yield improvements: >7% in arable crops, >19% in woody crops, and >10% in horticultural crops.
NSAFE® Fertiberia has also achieved commercial success and high customer satisfaction in Spain and Portugal since 2023, establishing itself as a reliable and efficient solution under real farming conditions.
The launch of NSAFE® Fertiberia in the Netherlands and Germany aligns with Grupo Fertiberia’s global strategy to lead the sustainable transformation of the agricultural sector. This milestone not only expands the Group’s international presence but also represents a decisive step toward a more sustainable, efficient, and environmentally responsible European agriculture.
