World-leading project to produce cost-effective green hydrogen on a large scale.
Catalina is a world-leading large-scale green hydrogen project that aims to develop 1.1 GW of combined onshore wind and solar PV plants and a 500 MW electrolyser, connected to a new low carbon ammonia plant developed and operated by Fertiberia in Sagunto (Valencian Community), through a 221 km dedicated hydrogen pipeline. We are developing the project in a consortium with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners and Enagás Renovables.
The project will produce up to 55,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, which corresponds to 11% of the total hydrogen consumption in Spain and will prevent the emission of 3.1 million tonnes of CO₂ in the first ten years.
The project will produce cost-effect green hydrogen, which will be used to meet the demand of local, regional and national industries, mainly in the fertiliser sector. In our case, we will replace natural gas with this renewable hydrogen to produce our plant nutrition solutions without emitting CO₂ and in a sustainable manner.
With this agreement, our Fertiberia Sagunto plant will become a springboard for the development of this new energy vector in the Valencian Community. Our company will sign a long-term contract to supply low carbon ammonia, which will enable the Sagunto facility to produce 100% sustainable and emission-free fertilisers.
