Fertiberia Chair of Agro-environmental Studies Announces its 16th Symposium on Healthy Soils for a Productive and Climate-Resilient Agriculture

The aim of the Fertiberia Chair's conference is to delve into the innovative strategies and technologies that harmonize agricultural productivity with profitability and the preservation of soil health.

  • The event will take place on Thursday, April 10th at 9:30 AM at the Higher Technical School of Agronomic Engineering, Food and Biosystems (ETSIAAB), in the Auditorium of its headquarters at Avenida Puerta de Hierro, 2, Madrid.
  • The event will feature an institutional address by Elena Busutil, Director-General of Agricultural Productions and Markets at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food.

Madrid, March 19, 2025. Under the title “Healthy Soils for a Productive and Climate-Resilient Agriculture,” the Fertiberia Chair of Agro-environmental Studies will host its 16th symposium on April 10th. The aim of this event is to delve into the innovative strategies and technologies that harmonize agricultural productivity with profitability and the preservation of soil health.

The event seeks to highlight the latest trends in the agricultural sector, exploring advanced techniques and products that enhance crop productivity without compromising environmental balance. In a context of growing concerns about sustainability, the symposium will provide a forum to reflect on how agricultural profitability can coexist with respect for biodiversity and the conservation of natural resources.

During the event, prominent experts in sustainability, technological innovation, and agro-industry will share their knowledge on best practices to achieve this balance, which is essential for the future of the sector. Additionally, the opportunities provided by technological innovations to optimize agricultural performance sustainably in the long term will be discussed.

  • The event will begin with a series of institutional addresses, including speeches by Elena Busutil, Director-General of Agricultural Productions and Markets at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food; Óscar García Suárez, Rector of the Polytechnic University of Madrid; José Manuel Palacios Alberti, Director of ETSIAAB; Alfredo Segura López, Fertilizers Sales Director at Fertiberia; and Luis Sánchez Álvarez, Head of the Soil Mission Sector at the Directorate-General for Agriculture of the European Commission.

  • Following this, the first presentations will address key topics, such as increasing carbon content in agricultural soils, a subject to be presented by Carlos García Izquierdo, Research Professor at CEBAS-CSIC, and the importance of the microbiome for soil health, presented by Cristina Cruz, Professor at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon.

  • After a coffee break, new presentations will be given, including one by Khalid Akdi Elaroussi, General Manager of TRICHODEX, who will discuss soil regeneration and the role of the microbiome in agricultural resilience. Rocío Vilches, Deputy Director-General of Environmental Health and Occupational Health at the Ministry of Health, will present on microorganism-based fertilizers and data requirements from a public health perspective. Additionally, Soledad Sacristán Benayas, Associate Professor at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, will explore the various facets of endophytic fungi, from growth promoters to their use in biocontrol.

  • Finally, Javier López Navas, Head of Agrotech Operations at EOSOL, will present how the company has digitalized the soil of Spain using Artificial Intelligence and over 50 years of soil analysis.

The event will conclude with a speech by Augusto Arce, Director of the Fertiberia Chair of Agro-environmental Studies, followed by a cocktail to foster the exchange of ideas and experiences among the attendees.

The symposium will be moderated by Luis Montoto Rojo, economic correspondent for ABC Sevilla, collaborator of Canal Sur, and business communication consultant.

This gathering will be a unique opportunity to share knowledge and experiences on achieving a balance between agricultural productivity and sustainability, with special attention to the care of soil health.
