  • Their initiatives have stood out in the field of prevention and the promotion of a safe and healthy working environment.
  • The Fertiberia factory in Lavradio, Portugal has been recognised with a special mention for achieving more than 2 years without accidents.

Madrid, 28 April 2024 – Grupo Fertiberia joins the celebration of World Day for Safety and Health at Work with the second edition of its SaFer Awards, an initiative that recognises the efforts of the staff, the group’s factories and also the companies that regularly provide services at its plants, which prioritise Health, Safety and the Environment with the aim of building a safer and more sustainable company. The awards were presented by the CEO of Grupo Fertiberia, Javier Goñi; the Industrial Director, David Herrero; the QHSE and Sustainability Director, Andrea Sánchez, and the General Safety Coordinator, Fernando Domínguez.

As in the previous edition, the SaFer Awards recognise the Group’s efforts in four different categories.

  • In ‘Safety Model’, which distinguishes exemplary attitudes and behaviour of workers in ensuring individual and collective safety, Cinta Gómez Mora, an employee at the Palos factory, received the award.
  • In the ‘Risk Reducer’ category, Carlos Sousa Rosa, from the Setúbal factory, was honoured for his ‘Safety Awareness Campaign’, which aims to raise awareness about safety in the workplace by means of stickers placed in common areas.

Both winners received were awarded a trophy and a travel voucher worth 1,500 Euros.

  • Likewise, in the ‘Safety and Environment’ category, the award went to the Huelva Closing section, which, throughout 2023, has carried out its complex activity with 0 accidents (its own and those of contractors), more than fulfilling its preventive planning and maintaining a correct state of order and cleanliness in all its workplaces.
  • Finally, in the ‘Star Company’ category, a distinction awarded to external companies that carry out their activity in Grupo Fertiberia on a regular basis, the award went to MEISA, specialising in mechanical maintenance, standing out as the best contract company in Sagunto in terms of safety performance.

Both the Huelva Closing and Stacking section and MEISA were awarded a cheque for 5,000 and 2,000 Euros, respectively, earmarked for the purchase of safety equipment.

Likewise, the Fertiberia factory in Lavradio, Portugal has been recognised with a special mention for achieving more than 2 years without accidents.

Encouraging and promoting good habits is the most effective way to strengthen a culture committed to safety and health at work. Not surprisingly, at Fertiberia we have managed to drastically reduce the frequency of accidents, thanks to our efforts to raise awareness and train, and of course, to the commitment of all members of the company,” said David Herrero during the opening of the event.

Javier Goñi, CEO of Grupo Fertiberia, was in charge of closing the event, reaffirming the company’s commitment to creating a safe and sustainable working environment, “because this is the only way to guarantee the future of the business and the development of the best professionals. And the attitudes and actions that we have awarded today show that we are on the right track.”

The safety of people and processes are at the heart of Group’s strategy to move towards a safe working environment. In this sense, the SaFer programme, launched four years ago, is set up through the deployment of a long-term action plan aimed at promoting a corporate culture of ‘zero losses’, based on responsibility and prevention to avoid accidents and limit risks, in addition to reinforcing process safety.
